Streetwear

Streetwear Trends:
Vintage and 1970’s Bohemian are two big current trends being seen on the streets:
Future Trends-
The future street wear trends for Los Angeles going into Fall/Winter 2012 and Spring 2013 are most likely going to be all about denim. Distressed denim, printed denim, and the emerging trend, patched denim. The patched denim trend is coming back and merging with current runway trends such as, dark, distressed and grungy silhouettes with unfinished hems and fringe. The patchwork can consist of old band logos, military, boy scout, and ivy league that all follow the theme of the 1970’s denim jackets and jeans.

Street wear and day wear for young women in the Los Angeles area hasn’t really changed in the past few years. Companies such as Free People, H&M, and Urban Outfitters have all displayed boho-chic, 70's silhouettes with loose fitting and fringed tops, knitted cardigans, beading, with bright, natural colors and prints. I don't see the trend disappearing or evolving much in the next few years, due to the southern California culture. I see Free People especially being one most likely to keep with the same silhouettes and only varying in color and pattern design.

Runway Trends

LA Fashion Week showed designers that seemed to all be following similar trends. Valeri Probega and S&G followed gritty, and black and white heavy collections that exposed underwear and ripped hemlines and seams that could be a trend that could lead into the following year for streetwear for both men and women in the Los Angeles area. Thai Ngugen followed the upcoming trends for spring/fall 2012/2013 with Asian inspired textiles and fabrics and a running fan motif that was seen throughout the collection, as well as including black and fringed hemlines. The bohemian trend that is widely seen on the streets of the LA area is continually going strong into 2012 and 2013 as a trend that will continue to be popular in Southern California. Designer Bryan Hearns daywear follows the fringed hemline/edges trends, showing 1970's influences.
