Current and Future Trends

Trends are constantly changing and L.A. is no exception. Current trends are feathers, color blocking, lave, vintage, and above all boho chic in L.A. This bohemian look has always been popular because of the L.A. weather but with the bohemian trend spreading over the country it has really picked up for L.A.

Going forward into 2013 I believe that blue will be a big hit. Color blocking is currently popular and I believe it will go forward into blue and especially a sea foam green. According to Stylesight.com the ocean theme has been big this year and it will translate into blue and green.

Trade Shows

It looks like Vegas really does have some Magic left. Trade show Magic that is. The Magic trade show in Vegas was hosted this last february and some of the trends coming out of the show were inspired. Watch for ox-bloodcoloured fashions next fall. Bold color blocking appears to be another upcoming trend. And in footwear, heels are sky-high or flat - nothing much in between. Shapewear is popular at trade shows currently and so are wild and wonderful socks. It looks like Magic is putting the magic back into Vegas.

Display
Windows
Look out Echo Park, L.A.! The window displays to gawk at this year are the windows at the Out of the Closet thrift store. Up and coming Salvador Cruz has a knack for creating eye catching displays and his January display was just another tribute to his success. Themed My Winter Gala, this display featured disco balls, metallic, masks, fur, and feathers; all trends this season. Fur has been showing up since Fall 2011 and has been predicted to continue trending for quite some time. Then again fur never really was out to begin with. Since winter of last year feathers have been used in hairpieces for women and are showing up in stores like H&M. Feathers are predicted to fade out in the next two years according to Stylesight.com but are still hanging around this year. They may have already hit the top of the fashion cycle what with the feathers in the hair fad and it will be interesting to see if that fad returns in the summer. Metallic is hitting the markets big time right now. Head to your nearest Nordies and you are guarantied to find a shimmering silver top to go with that black skirt you keep hanging in the closet. Keep watching the windows at Out of the Closet and you are sure to find more trends for the coming seasons.

Manufacturing Trends

It looks like that this summer’s swimwear is going to be more colorful then ever. Trending currently is any sort of bright color, lots of stripes, lazar cutouts, knitted and crocheted swimwear, and fringe. According to RAJ swimwear representative, Rick Kuhn, "It's about color, a lot of color," Kuhn said. "Style wise, bandos are bigger than they typically have been. And stripes are huge this year. It's pretty much across all brands. The stripes work from little girls, to young contemporary." Manufacturers picked up on these trends and now everywhere you shop you can find any one of the aforementioned trends abundantly. The color trend looks to continue into 2013 and possibly further according to Stylesight.com. Apparently beaches this year will be awash with color.

Runway Trends

On the runway this season peplum skirts, pastels, color blocking, sea life, bold prints, and tangerines were all big hits. Whether it is a peplum skirt, a peplum blouse, or even a peplum dress, this style has dominated the catwalks this season. Designers including Vera Wang, Jason Wu, Zac Posen, Yves Saint Laurent and Dior all showcased designs that featured peplum accents. Pastels were a huge trend on the runway this season. Light hues and pale sorbet colors were featured in clothes, shoes and purses, but also as a trend for nail polishes. Many clothing retailers have also taken to this trend, and stores like Forever21 are now featuring clothing in pastel shades.
Color blocking is a trend, which has remained in fashion since the end of last year. Designers such as Marc Jacobs, Tommy Hilfiger, Donna Karan, Louis Vuitton, John Galliano and Gucci have featured color blocking in their collections. Prints of sea life and ocean waves have been a prominent feature on clothing this season. Images of shells, starfish, sea horses, pearls and other ocean accents, such as scalloped edges, were a major trend on the catwalk along with bold and abstract prints. Futuristic patterns, swirls, and abstract graphics were a key highlight, as were bird prints and tropical landscapes. Dresses, skirts tops and accessories in orange shades dominated the catwalk this season, and could be easily named the number one color of the season. Designers including Tommy Hilfiger, Yves Saint Laurent, Dior, Hermes, Vivienne Westwood, Prada, Carolina Herrera, Fendi and Marc Jacobs featured orange and tangerine colored items prominently. I predict that in the 2013/2014 seasons color blocking will continue and bright colors will be features. The boho chic look will become prominent and purple will be the next big color along with a tropical color palette.
